President Michelle J. Anderson

Dear Alumni and Friends,

In this issue of the Brooklyn College Magazine, we celebrate 30 recent graduates who light up their fields. These superstars are just a fraction of the outstanding talent, ambition, and potential our students and alumni bring to the world. I hope you enjoy reading vignettes about their achievements.

On campus, our faculty make lasting positive impacts on students’ lives. In this issue, for example, you’ll read about the scholarly work of Judaic Studies Professor Allan Amanik who has developed a partnership with local yeshivas to help students transition to college life on our campus. This program has been warmly embraced by students who appreciate the specialized attention to their needs.

Our faculty members also make a positive difference in students’ lives through mentoring. The college has launched a transformative mentoring initiative thanks to generous support from the Tow Foundation. This initiative builds upon our established mentoring programs to make mentorship more available to a wider swath of students across campus. It is our goal to provide every Brooklyn College student with a transformative mentoring experience.

In addition, the college has joined the Hillel International Campus Climate Initiative, along with six other CUNY campuses, to foster a positive environment in which Jewish students feel comfortable expressing their identity and values, free of antisemitism, harassment, or marginalization. We take this work seriously and have partners across campus, including our well-established Tanger Hillel, working diligently to ensure that the initiative enhances Jewish student life.

Life on campus this semester is giving us the wonderful opportunity to attend more in-person events. From lectures and athletic games to theater and concert performances, there is no lack of Brooklyn College spirit on the quad! You are always welcome to come home and join us.

In closing, I ask that you please consider participating in our fall campaign on “Giving Tuesday” on November 29. Gifts of any amount go directly to helping our students in need complete their degrees. They will succeed because of your great support!

Thank you, and enjoy the holiday season!

Warm regards,

Michelle
