From the President’s Desk

Dear Alumni and Friends,

We have safely and successfully returned to Brooklyn College life, and it has been joyous to be back on our beautiful campus. From athletes back at intercollegiate play and student music performances to research in our labs and lectures in our classrooms—our community is sharing space while learning, working, and playing together once again.

Our students, alumni, and faculty continue to shine and make us proud, especially those who are engaged in work to tackle some of the world’s most significant challenges. I’m pleased to share with you the latest issue of our college magazine, which takes an in-depth look at a project led by faculty and student researchers to help New York City neighborhoods grapple with the daily effects of climate change. In addition to this incredible work happening here in our borough, you can also read about three alumni physicians who met at Brooklyn College and reconnected in 2020 to share data that is proving helpful in the fight against COVID-19. I hope you also will enjoy learning about other alumni who have taken interesting and unconventional paths inspired by their studies at Brooklyn College. Whether it’s a poli sci major turned CEO, a schoolteacher who created one of NYC’s hottest pizza restaurants, an Afghan refugee musician who is now an acclaimed composer, or a generous alumnus who is now supporting veteran students through $500,000 in scholarship funds, each story illustrates the powerful role of the college in helping each of these BC family members realize their ambition.

Finally, we will be participating in Giving Tuesday again this year, so please consider a gift to our annual fund on November 30. Your contribution supports scholarship funds, emergency grants, and internship stipends, all of which directly help our students.
